POSHANN

Malnutrition is widely prevalent in the rural pockets of Jharkhand comprising a large SC/ST population. The fact that 64% of tribal children are underweight and 80% of these kids are anaemic, leaves a lot to ponder about the current state of child health in the state. More than three -fourth of rural adolescent girls suffer from iron deficiency. Ignorance of the rural folks on better reproductive and Child health, nutrition and hygiene has further enhanced the gravity of the situation.

The project 'Poshnann' in the Sonaraithari block of Deoghar district is mainly aimed at sensitization of 40 villages of the block on health, nutrition and sustainable agriculture. It advocates a multi sectoral approach in eradication of hunger and malnutrition through synergy between agriculture, nutrition and WASH interventions. Departments like ATMA, MGNREGA, ICDS and JSLPS have come around in support of Prabha in the project co-sponsored by BMZ and WHH in implementation at ground level. It emphasizes the behavioral change of the villagers on nutrition and health security through the ongoing government programs like NSMP and LANN PLA. Health and nutrition of women and children from marginalised sections form the core principle of the project.
