Fight Hunger First Initiative

Through the project, Prabha carried out its rights based advocacies in empowering the community on health, nutrition, education and livelihood. In order to curb the pathetic state of women reproductive and Child health as well as the rising instances of unemployment on the rural front, the project embarked upon the process of employment generation on consistent basis through MGNREGA and rejuvenation of rural health infrastructure for prevention of stunting percentage among children below five years of age as well as lowering the infant mortality and maternal mortality rates. The project also focussed on boosting the school attendance.

IMPACTS
Prabha's relentless efforts have resulted in convergence with various government schemes on agriculture. This has resulted in an increase in kharif crop cultivation by 56.4% as well as Rabi crops by 37.5% in the project area.
45% of the households got an average work of 45 days annually through MGNREGA. Our campaign in this regard -'Kaam Mango Abhiyan',has generated an additional income of INR 4800 per household.
Prabha's interventions have resulted in a decrease in moderately malnourished cases of children by 5% and severely underweight cases by 7.8%. The 15 days positive deviance sessions through nutrition camps and collaboration with the malnourishment treatment centre in Deoghar are some of the positive inroads in dealing with the abysmal child health status.
Wall paintings and writings on the entitlements of ICDS and schools of 5 villages in the project area has resulted in a large number of children turn- out in schools.
340 women SHGs of the block, 260 members of the School Management Committee from 38 schools have received training on health nutrition and Right To Education (RTE).
28 youth based groups consisting mainly of adolescent girls, received training on menstrual hygiene management, reproductive and Child health, nutrition, RTE, SHG management and leadership. 400 girls have received training so far.
52 frontline health workers like Sahiya, Sevika and ANMs were sensitized on the nuances of an effective Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) and nutritional requirements of adolescent girls and female members of the community.
The project has promoted 105 SHGs in the Sonaraithari block.
School Hygiene workshop promoting safe WASH practises,conducted with 900 children from 15 schools in the project area. Demo hand wash sessions with soaps, awareness about the use of clean toilets, prevention of open defecation are some of the key initiatives along with installation of water filters for iron removal in 32 schools and 15 ICDS centres.
Construction of school gardens completed in 31 school premises ,nutrition gardens initiated in 15 ICDS centres supporting 30 families of Severely Acute Malnourished Children.
Breastfeeding week quiz organized among a mother group of 500 members.
2 day healthy baby show conducted in 15 ICDS centres of 2 panchayats in the project area. During the course of the program, nutrimix was distributed among moderately malnourished children whereas severely malnourished cases were referred to Malnourishment Treatment Centre, Deoghar.
